Congratulations to the following primary students whose Reflections submissions will next be judged at the state level.  There will be a reception for all of our students who moved onto the county level as well later this Spring.  More information to come.  Thanks to everyone who participated!!

DBPTA International Pot Luck Dinner

Double Branch Elementary School is a melting pot of different cultures.  To celebrate these cultures, we will be holding an International Pot Luck Dinner on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 7 p.m. The theme of the night will be “EMBRACING OUR DIFFERENCES.” The administration, staff and PTA at Double Branch would like to honor all ethnicities represented at our school with this dinner, and hope that everyone will take part in this life-altering event.

The vision of this International Pot Luck Dinner is to allow each family to showcase their heritage by bringing their national dishes and providing some valuable information, photographs, flags, native style of dressing, songs, dances or artwork from their country to share with others.  These offerings will be showcased in a booth with that country’s name. We recognize that there are also many multicultural families within our school community and would love to highlight that as well.  We also do not want to minimize the importance of being American and want our beloved country recognized here also. We want this to be a BIG event in the sense that it would allow for a sharing of cultural richness.  We anticipate that there will be overlapping countries and will try to combine those that are from the same countries.  This will also be a chance for everyone to network and meet families who don’t necessarily see each other on a daily basis.

We request that you return this brief survey to the main office by Wednesday, February 13, 2008 and place in the box provided, so that we can anticipate how many people will be participating.  We also ask that you RSVP to me by Friday, February 15, 2008 at 813-579-7640 with the number of family members attending.  We will continue to keep you posted as to any updates for this event.

Throw on your PJ's, bring a blanket and join us in the DBES Cafeteria for a free movie night.  We'll even throw in a free box of popcorn to every PTA-member family.  Popcorn, hot dogs, soda, juice and water will also be available for sale.  And Cafe Cones will also be on hand to sell ice cream, frozen yogurt and sugar-free cakes.  The DB PTA, Troy, Gabriella and the rest of the East High gang will see you there!!
